SCHOLARSHIPS
LAEF awards scholarships annually to Colorado students. The
annual deadline is February 15th. For the 2006-2007 academic
year, over 130 students were awarded scholarships averaging
$1,500 (not including partnership match). The
Scholarship Selection Committee carefully screens applicants and makes
awards based on academic achievement, financial need, personal
strengths, community involvement, letters of recommendation and a
personal essay and interview. The program is open to students of all
ethnicities; applicants must be of Hispanic heritage and/or actively
involved in the Hispanic community and applications MUST be typed.
COLORADO HIGHER EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP
In 1989 LAEF began a collaborative effort with many of Colorado's colleges, universities and
vocational schools to increase Latino enrollment and retention. These partnerships with Colorado
institutions match LAEF's scholarship dollars and thereby maximize financial resources.
COMMUNITY COALITION
LAEF has taken a leadership role in developing and working with a coalition of Latino
organizations. LAEF provides membership organizations the needed administrative support and the
opportunity to benefit from its Colorado Higher Education matching-funds program.
HIGH SCHOOL NETWORK
LAEF's outreach extends to high schools statewide to promote awareness of the Foundation and its
scholarships, and to identify deserving, qualified students. To assist high school counselors
in advising students with their college preparations LAEF makes available its Guide to Preparing
for Your Educational Future. For a copy go to our online version.
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Scholarship recipients can gain valuable work experience with our sponsors as part-time or full-time employees. Sponsors serve
as mentors to these students, helping them achieve their goal of completing college and develop them to be corporate ready upon graduation.
